Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse
We were selected as part of our Novum Designer Assist service to fully engineer, fabricate, and install the stunningly transparent façade for the renovation of Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. The glass façade is massive; there is enough glass area on the Novum wall to cover 14 NBA basketball courts. The approximate 80’ tall facade wraps around three sides of the building and runs the entire length of the arena along Huron Road. The presence of this magnificent glass wall provides an incredible amount of excitement to the downtown area and is a statement piece to the city's loyal and dedicated sports fans.
The lateral loads on the wall are supported by AESS tubes that run behind the horizontal glass joints of the facade. The Novum AESS tubes are painted HSS 14x4 members that span 40’ typically from column to column. The dead load of the glass and steel is carried up the wall with 20mm stainless steel Novum Tension Rods.
The typical glass panel is 5’ wide by 11’-2” tall. Due to the varying height at the base of the façade, the tallest panels on the wall are 13’-6”. The glass is laminated, insulated and made up of Low Iron Glass that has a Low-e on the #2 surface. The glass is supported with the Novum Edge Clamped Glazing System. The Novum ECG-System is offset vertically 12” from the horizontal joints and is attached to a cast steel spider to help limit the span of the structural glass. A dead load tab is also part of the cast steel spider assembly to support the dead load of the glass panels at the horizontal joint. The presence of this magnificent façade provides a massive amount of excitement to the downtown area and is a statement piece to sports fans and concert-goers alike.
